BetaNews | Skype Surpasses 100 Million Users
100 Million users can't be wrong can they? Skype is an application for making Internet telephone calls either to other Skype users (for free) or to land lines (for $). Other features include voicemail, videoconferencing, and instant message. Of course Michael Robertson would have you believe that his product, Gizmo, is far easier and more compatible.

Google has swooped in and bought another company for their innovative product. Typical to their modus operandi the product has been re-branded and made free. While there is still a commercial version like Google Earth, the free version allows you to create 3D models and export them to Google Earth or other formats.

BetaNews | Microsoft Sends Windows Live to College
Microsoft is playing friendly to universities and colleges by offering free hosted email for their students. Google is also offering the same type of program. These companies and others realize the potential of getting into the culture of college students. If their brand and products are accepted as standard during their college years, they will expect the same standard when they arrive in the workplace where these companies really make their money.

BetaNews | HD DVD Players, Discs Make Debut
Today marks the day that brings the next media format war to the American consumer. Way back when the VCR came out there were two formats: VHS and Betamax. If you don't know what Betamax is, then it's obvious who won that format war. Everyone knows what a DVD is, but the next generation format war is between HD-DVD versus Blu-ray. Who will win? Only time and the American consumer will tell.
