The same day that Microsoft released their Virtual PC 2004 for free, VMware released their final version of VMware Server for free. Microsoft has released their virtualization server product Virtual Server 2005 R2 previously. The virtualization wars are gearing up now with these two giants vying for IT to use their products. It may be the some day virtualization is seamlessly a part of the operating system (i.e. Xen) in order for backwards compabitibility or security reasons. In the server space virtualization will be the key to the future of reliability and lowering costs.
